Overview

A prominent ultra-high-net-worth (UHNW) family in Downtown NYC seeks a polished, discreet, and service-oriented Houseman/Butler to join their private household staff. The ideal candidate will have a proven background in 5-star luxury hospitality or private estate service, bringing a proactive, detail-oriented approach to a dynamic, multifaceted role. This position requires adaptability to the evolving needs of the Principals, ensuring seamless household operations, and delivering exceptional service.

Key Responsibilities

Household Operations:

  • Coordinate with housekeeping staff to maintain impeccable cleanliness and order of interior and exterior areas, assisting with light cleaning as needed.
  • Monitor and manage household inventory and supplies, proactively restocking and reporting shortages.
  • Perform minor handyman tasks (e.g., changing lightbulbs, basic appliance troubleshooting, air filter replacement).
  • Ensure proper functionality of lighting, HVAC, AV systems, and smart home technology, liaising with vendors and the property manager as required.
  • Maintain vehicles (clean, fueled, and retrieved from garage) for Principal use.
  • Assist with setup and storage of holiday décor and prepare the household for seasonal or themed events.

Service & Hospitality:

  • Uphold 5-star luxury service standards with professionalism and discretion.
  • Assist with meal service setup, guest reception, and formal/informal dining events.
  • Run errands and manage luggage, packages, and other guest-related tasks.

Event & Guest Support:

  • Oversee setup, execution, and breakdown of private events, dinners, and social gatherings.
  • Greet and assist guests, ensuring a warm and professional welcome.
  • Prepare the residence for house guests in advance.

Property Oversight & Security:

  • Conduct regular property walkthroughs to ensure cleanliness, security, and readiness.
  • Open and close the residence daily or as scheduled.
  • Supervise contractors and vendors, ensuring discretion and high-quality service.

Potential Additional Responsibilities:

  • Assist with light cooking or meal prep (sous chef-level tasks or simple meals/snacks).
  • Provide chauffeur services for Principals to appointments, airports, or events.
  • Support household organization projects (e.g., labeling, streamlining storage areas, pantries, or closets).
  • Manage packing/unpacking for travel, including wardrobe organization and garment care.
  • Handle basic wardrobe maintenance (steaming, light ironing, seasonal clothing organization).
  • Arrange floral displays as needed.

Location: Manhattan, NYC with travel to additional properties within 1.5H drive Schedule: Full-time, flexible schedule with availability on evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed Compensation: Competitive, commensurate with experience

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar role within a UHNW household or luxury hospitality setting.
  • Expertise in luxury household operations and service etiquette.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organization, and commitment to cleanliness.
  • Highest level of discretion in handling confidential information.
  • Proficiency with smart home systems, basic AV, and security technologies.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.; background check and references required.
