Overview

A private family of four is seeking an experienced Housekeeper / Cook for their large, formal seven-story townhome on the Upper East Side. This is a hands-on role combining high-level housekeeping, laundry, organization, and family cooking. You will work closely with the family’s Nanny and Weekend Housekeeper/Laundress to keep the residence at an exceptional standard. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, confident in the kitchen, and experienced as part of a professional household team. The family spends summers in the Hamptons. Flexibility to travel and continue supporting the household while they are in residence is required.

This Housekeeper / Cook role is based in a private townhome on the Upper East Side of New York, NY.  Compensation is $90,000–$100,000, commensurate with experience. The schedule is Monday through Friday with flexible hours and 40 hours guaranteed each week. Summer travel with the family is required, primarily to the Hamptons. Benefits include PTO, sick days, and additional household benefits, and the start date is ASAP.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed daily housekeeping throughout the seven-story residence
  • Maintain museum-quality cleaning standards and properly care for fine furnishings, artwork, marble, wood, and other delicate surfaces
  • Manage bedrooms, bathrooms, common areas, closets, and household organization
  • Handle family laundry, including washing, ironing, steaming, folding, and proper garment care
  • Change and maintain bed linens and household linens
  • Prepare simple, healthy family meals, including breakfast, lunch, dinner, or meal prep as needed
  • Assist with grocery shopping, pantry organization, and kitchen supplies
  • Keep the kitchen exceptionally clean, organized, and properly stocked
  • Monitor and replenish household and cleaning supplies
  • Coordinate daily work with the Nanny, Weekend Housekeeper/Laundress, and other household staff
  • Assist with guest preparation, entertaining, and household projects as needed
  • Pack, organize, and prepare household and personal items for seasonal travel
  • Travel with the family during the summer, primarily to the Hamptons, and support housekeeping, cooking, laundry, and household operations while away
  • Maintain complete discretion, confidentiality, and professionalism at all times

Requirements

  • Minimum 5+ years in a high-end private residence
  • Strong experience with museum-quality cleaning and the care of luxury finishes
  • Excellent laundry, ironing, steaming, and organizational skills
  • Strong home cooking skills with the ability to prepare simple, healthy family meals
  • Prior experience in a formal, fully staffed household preferred
  • Comfortable working around young children
  • Team-oriented, with a hands-on, “no task too small” approach
  • Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail
  • Flexible and comfortable traveling with the family in summer
  • Professional, punctual, discreet, and highly reliable
  • Strong communication skills
  • Excellent references from current and previous employers
