Overview
A private family seeks a responsible, confident, empathetic, and fun mentor/caregiver for their extremely delightful 28-year-old son with special needs. This young man is bright, very easy-going, and happy. He enjoys walks, going out on outings, and structure, the company of others, as well as setting aside time and space for himself. Experience with special needs is a plus but not necessary—more importantly, the family is looking for someone interested in building a relationship with their son and providing companionship and has a willingness to learn. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Supporting the male principal, making sure he is taking his medications and providing companionship.
- Support the principal with any needs throughout the day
- Organize and administer medications.
- Keep things orderly in the house
- Help with cooking and serving meals for him
- Engage in conversation
- Basic computer skills required (must be able to send emails and texts to communicate with the family as needed)
- Accompany the principal with outdoor walks, appointments, social gatherings or family events
- Occasional running of errands, i.e., picking up prescriptions, etc.
This is a live-out position, Monday-Friday 9am-5pm with some flexibility in scheduling. Salary is generous but DOE. Health insurance offered.
Requirements
- Certificate in CPR (adult) from accredited program as well as general knowledge of first aid
- Minimum of 2-5 years related private home experience
- Excellent references from both current and previous employers
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Detail oriented with exceptional organizational skills
- Experience with diabetes, GI issues
