Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and professional Houseman/Butler to provide exceptional household support for a private residence in The Hamptons. This role requires a detail-oriented individual with a strong work ethic, excellent organizational skills, and a commitment to delivering high-quality service. The position may be part-time year-round or seasonal, depending on the candidate’s availability and the employer’s needs.
Responsibilities
- Household Maintenance: Perform light cleaning, tidying, and organizing of indoor and outdoor areas, including living spaces, patios, and guest areas.
- Guest Services: Greet and assist guests, serve meals and beverages, and ensure a welcoming and comfortable environment.
- Errands and Logistics: Run errands such as grocery shopping, picking up dry cleaning, and coordinating deliveries or vendor services.
- Event Support: Assist with setup, service, and cleanup for private events, dinners, or gatherings hosted at the residence.
- Inventory Management: Monitor and replenish household supplies, including pantry items, linens, and cleaning products.
- Basic Upkeep: Handle minor maintenance tasks, such as changing light bulbs, minor repairs, or coordinating with external vendors for larger repairs.
- Vehicle and Grounds Care: Oversee basic vehicle maintenance (e.g., cleaning, fueling) and assist with light groundskeeping tasks (e.g., maintaining outdoor furniture, clearing walkways).
- Pool Furniture Maintenance (Seasonal): Clean, set up, and store pool furniture during the summer season (May–September).
- Discretion and Privacy: Maintain strict confidentiality and professionalism regarding all household matters and interactions with residents and guests.
Qualifications
- Experience: Previous experience as a houseman, butler, or in a similar hospitality or household role is preferred but not required. Training will be provided for the right candidate.
- Skills:
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to anticipate needs and work proactively.
- Basic knowledge of household maintenance and cleaning protocols.
- Familiarity with formal service etiquette is a plus.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, and perform physically demanding tasks as needed.
- Availability: Flexible schedule, including weekends, evenings, and holidays, especially during peak summer season (ASAP to Labor Day). Summer hours are Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, 8:00 AM–1:00 PM.
- Transportation: Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation. Access to a vehicle for errands is preferred.
- Background: Must pass a background check and provide professional references.
