Overview
We are seeking a skilled and health-oriented Private Chef to join our household team in New York City, with a seasonal relocation to the Hamptons during the summer months and occasional visits throughout the year. This is a long-term position for a professional who prioritizes clean, seasonal cuisine, responsible sourcing, sustainability, and personalized dining experiences that align with a family’s commitment to an active and healthy lifestyle—while maintaining exceptional flavor and creativity. The ideal candidate embodies a farm-to-table ethos, demonstrates strong organizational skills, maintains cost efficiency without compromising quality, and possesses expertise in managing food allergies with utmost precision.
Location and Schedule
- September–May (New York City-Based): Preparation of dinners from Sunday through Thursday, with occasional flexibility for holidays or special events.
- June–August (Primarily Hamptons-Based): Occasional days in New York City; preparation of some lunches during summer months; expectation of regular guests; execution and oversight of multiple special events or group outings, which may include breakfast, lunch, and/or dinner.
The selected chef must be willing to reside primarily in the Hamptons during June, July, and August, with occasional visits year-round. Accommodations will be provided at the family’s Hamptons residence, or the chef may arrange alternative housing if preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare complete dinners for a family of four, with one child departing for college in the fall.
- Accommodate individual preferences and prepare personalized meals as requested.
- Prepare simple, healthy to-go lunches upon request.
- Maintain a selection of convenient grab-and-go items, such as fresh fruits, baked goods, and pre-cooked healthy proteins.
- Develop weekly menus in advance and manage corresponding grocery lists.
- Source high-quality, seasonal, farm-fresh ingredients and proteins thoughtfully, with a focus on organic and free-range options where applicable, while remaining mindful of costs and minimizing waste.
- Adhere strictly to dietary restrictions and food allergies: One child has Celiac disease (no gluten or cross-contamination) and allergies to eggs and mustard/mustard seeds. Vigilance in preventing cross-contamination and verifying ingredient sources is essential.
- Ensure the kitchen remains impeccably clean after each preparation, including all appliances, tools, countertops, and floors.
- Set the dinner table and provide a discreet, service-oriented presence (formal service required only for special events).
- Occasionally plan and execute larger dinners, holiday gatherings, or special events in New York City or the Hamptons, including menu development, advance preparation, coordination with household staff, and arranging additional temporary support as needed.
Culinary Approach We emphasize:
- Clean, whole-food cooking utilizing premium ingredients (organic, free-range, and fresh).
- A practical farm-to-table philosophy.
- Seasonal menus with thoughtful ingredient sourcing.
- A balanced approach to premium quality and cost-consciousness.
- Strong organizational practices in menu planning, preparation timing, and kitchen management.
- Mindful use of materials, including efforts to minimize unnecessary plastic where feasible.
We do not require formal fine dining for daily meals. Our priority is elevated, flavorful, and health-conscious family dining that is satisfying, balanced, and consistent.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- At least 7 years of experience in private residences, with a focus on family cooking.
- Interest in a long-term, stable employment opportunity.
- Highly organized, proactive, and communicative.
- Naturally aligned with a health-conscious lifestyle.
- Capable of independently managing workflow, preparation time, and ingredient sourcing.
- Flexible with travel and seasonal transitions between New York City and the Hamptons.
Compensation and Benefits
- Base salary: $100,000–$150,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
- Eligibility for a discretionary annual bonus.
- Health insurance coverage provided after a three-month probationary period.
